Tips and Media Instructions for Promoting your Black Friday Sale

Our PR team has offered up these tips and media instructions for promoting your Black Friday Sale locally:

Call your newspaper and TV station's newsroom and find out which reporter is going to do the traditional Black Friday shopping feature. Get phone number or e-mail and pitch that reporter first.  If this reporter is interested great. If not, ask whom the best person would be.

If there is no reporter covering Black Friday, or is not interested, send the release to:

  1. Features desk
  2. Business desk
  3. The Metro news desk
  4. Anyone who writes about shopping or budget living
  5. The news desk of your local TV stations
  6. Many newspapers will allow readers to submit news. Search for that feature on the newspaper's Web site, register and upload. Sometimes there is a day's lag time.

Follow up by Wednesday and feel free to call the stations/papers on Friday if you haven't gotten any word, as someone likely will be there doing the must-do Black Friday story.

Send your release to local media, national media contacts, post to free sites and PR Web. Don't forget to send it to friends, post it to Facebook, Twitter it and send it to bloggers who are devoted to local and national shopping.

Selling Wholesale? Why You Need Wholesale Line Sheets and Order Forms

The more info you can get to Retailers the better. I believe a wholesale
line sheet and wholesale order form is a must. Catalogs are great but if
your product line changes quickly, design and printing can be costly. Line sheets
are a great answer to this because you can add a new product quickly to your
current line without huge expense.

If you and the Retailer know all the facts up front, no questions or
assumptions from either party can arise.
